This year it is calling on the nation to share a ‘big thank you’ with small firms to recognise their vital role throughout the pandemic.

Creature Comforts will be highlighted on social media on 5th October 2021 as part of the 100-day countdown to Small Business Saturday UK.

Nina Gray, Owner of Creature Comforts said:
“I am overwhelmed we have been chosen to be included in Small Biz 100 this year, It has been a challenging few years for our businesses with the severe weather, floods (in our other shops) and covid-19. Taking on a new shop during covid-19 seemed bonkers but thanks to the whole team from all of our shops (some working day, evening and night ensuring shelves are stocked, deliveries are completed and animals are healthy) we have done the best we can for our customers making sure their pets get what they need.
We are looking to expand the services in our Creature comforts store by including dog grooming and doggie day care which will be what dogs will need while their owners are going back to work. Pre Covid-19 In our other stores we have invited independent pet businesses inc. Micro chipping, Photography, Paw casting, First aid training & Dog Training. We look to do more things like this in Ross on Wye to share the love for our pets.
We value promoting good animal care which we hold information days on certain products, post demo videos of our products on facebook and youtube channel. We aim to provide exceptional customer service and we do this by being there for the customer and the pet and giving good advice on what the pet needs, we have a store card so the customer can gain points and save money shopping in any of our shops. Also if you cannot find what you are looking for we can do our best to source it for you from our range of suppliers.
On the 5th of October 2021 we will be celebrating it with one off offers, competitions the dogs of Ross on Wye can enter, so bring your V.I.Pooches for treats and in with a chance to win prizes... with a special visitor visiting the store.”

Small Business Saturday UK will return on 4 December 2021, following record-breaking success last year, which saw an estimated £1.1 billion spent with small businesses on the day itself.

This year, ahead of the UN Climate Summit COP26 in Glasgow, the SmallBiz100 features small firms with a passion for sustainability, to demonstrate the important part small businesses play in tackling climate change and helping the UK to achieve net zero.  Creature Comforts works with a local cardboard recycling program to reduce the amount of cardboard going to landfill. Any plastic and metal is also separated and recycled locally for recycling. The use of paper has been reduced as much as possible and the paper which is used is recycled locally. The business has looked into environmentally friendly products e.g. poop bags, toys and accessories which both customers and pets love which help the planet.

Michelle Ovens CBE, Director of Small Business Saturday UK, said:
“Throughout the crisis we have been reminded of the special role that small firms play in local areas, looking after their customers, communities and the planet. We are excited to be kicking off this year’s campaign to show our thanks to amazing small businesses like Creature Comforts. As firms recover from the challenges of the pandemic we are calling upon everyone to get behind the campaign to make it our most impactful Small Business Saturday yet.”

A grassroots, not-for-profit campaign Small Business Saturday was originally founded by American Express in the U.S. in 2010. It remains the principal supporter of the campaign in the UK, as part of its ongoing championing the UK high street and commitment to encourage consumers to shop small.

On Small Business Saturday, customers across the UK go out and support all types of small businesses, both online and in brick-and-mortar stores. Many small businesses take an active role in promoting the day by hosting events and offering promotions.

Small Business Saturday attracts huge attention on the day itself, with an impact that last all year. Last year the campaign trended at number one in the UK on Twitter, with the Prime Minister, leader of the opposition and the Mayor of London among those publicly supporting the campaign. Over 90% of local councils also supported the campaign.
